Editorial Review:

Product DescriptionA groundbreaking option in no-new-wires connections, the new BL-PA100 is a product that makes it extremely easy to set up a robust network for connecting devices. A reliable network capable of carrying high-definition video content required running dedicated cabling between devices, a possibly expensive and time-consuming venture. With a Wireless LAN, wireless interference and network collisions are a significant problem for many users, in some cases causing the network to drop out or suffer extremely poor bandwidth capacity, and it might be difficult for the average person to properly set the security code (WEP), thereby risking online security. The BL-PA100 adaptor eliminates these, and other, hassles associated with this process. Simply plug the adaptor into an electric power outlet, plug your PC or other peripheral, such as a Panasonic IP network camera, into the adaptor's Ethernet port and you're ready to go. To add a second HD-PLC adaptor, plug the Master and Terminal units into the same power outlet, and push the Setup button on each unit. Then, wait for the adaptors' LED lights to turn on to confirm that setup is complete. To re-locate the Internet connection, simply take the adaptor out of the current power outlet and move it to another outlet in the desired location. The HD-PLC (High Definition Power Line Communication) ethernet adaptor makes it possible for your home electrical wiring to serve as a link between your PC and modem. Getting online access is as easy as plugging into a power outlet. You can move your PC and connect to the internet anywhere there is a power outlet in your home.

Features:
  • HD-PLC as the Core of a Home Network
  • Easy Setup - No PC Required
  • Connect Through Any AC Outlet in Your Home
  • Use up to 16 adapters per network

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very pleased
I received two Panasonic ethernet powerline adapters in quick order a month ago. It took longer to read the instructions than it took to program and install the units. They worked perfectly from the outset and are still fine in an instance where wireless networking would not work. No more wireless networks, with their awkward programming to get started, for me.

I have read that the Panasonic units do not meet the standard spec for powerline units, but who cares? They work flawlessly (over 30 megs thruput) and I am not going to mix these units with units from other manufacturers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - works great so far
-worked right out of the box
-runs hot but so far so good
-has a power cord (rather than plugging in directly to the wall like most other products) which was more convenient for me (also may help it dissipate the heat a bit to not have it right next to the wall)
-didn't work at all if plugged into a power strip, but works fine when plugged direct into wall receptacle
-speed is at least as fast as the wireless connection that this replaced

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - panasonic powerline adaptor
This product is as easy as 1-2-3. Just plug it directly into the wall, connect your ethernet to your router and to you computer/gaming system. The product works flawlessly. I like the idea of not having to broadcast wireless, leaving my network at risk of intrusion and not sacrificing the speed. I bought this product to move my desk into a built in area and to connect my xbox 360 wired not wireless. So far so good. I recommend this product to anyone how can understand third grade instructions.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Outstanding product
As an IT professional I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone needing to extend their network in a secure way (far better than wireless). A few simple button pushes and bingo--network where ever you plug in.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - So far it's doing the trick
I'm using this to send a internet connection to my Dish TV receiver in order to avoid the monthly charge of not having it always connected to the internet. I don't have a phone line and there are no LAN wires ran to this area of my house. The unit shows a good connection, and the warnings from the Dish TV receiver don't show up anymore....so it must be working. So far, so good....especially at the price I paid.

LONDON (Reuters) - Japan's No.3 bank sought to beef up its capital on Wednesday, markets fretted over the stricken U.S. car industry and Britain's central bank said it considered cutting rates even more dramatically than it did this month.

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?
